LOCAL BUSINESS WINS PRESTIGIOUS NECTAR BUSINESS AWARD

A local small business from Hayes has won a prestigious Nectar Business Small Business Award, fending off stiff competition from hundreds of successful small enterprises to be named Small Business of the Year 2011. Walltastic, a manufacturer of murals for children’s bedrooms, was selected to win by a panel of business experts, including businesswoman and star of BBC1’s The Apprentice, Karren Brady. 

Run by Nectar Business, a loyalty programme designed to help small businesses by offering them the ability to earn rewards on their everyday business expenditure; the Nectar Business Small Business Awards were started in 2009 to recognise the cream of Britain’s small business talent. As a winner, Walltastic will receive £2,000, 50,000 Nectar points, a trophy and a share in the free media publicity.   

Formerly a cleaner at Heathrow airport, Julian Evans, the founder of Walltatic, first had a business idea to sell stickers to liven up fridges. His business quickly took off and developed into the creation of colourful murals for children’s bedrooms. The current range consists of designs incorporating some of the world’s leading children’s entertainment characters, including Barbie, Dora the Explorer and Spiderman. The fun wall coverings have proved immensely popular, propelled by TV and press exposure.

Commenting on why Walltastic was chosen for the Award, Karren Brady said: “Walltastic wowed the judges with its unique product. We were not only impressed by the character licences the business has secured for its wall murals, but also by the fact they are trading in China – a very lucrative market that many larger businesses find hard to crack. The business impressed the judges, and we wish Julian and his team every success for the future.”
